Our story of service, compassion and hope

SAGA Empowerment Services was born from a deep desire to make a meaningful impact. What began as a small group of passionate individuals—united by empathy, faith, and purpose—has grown into a movement of hope dedicated to serving women, families, and communities facing crisis. From the beginning, our mission has centered on supporting women and mothers navigating life’s most difficult challenges, including families recovering from fires, unexpected hardships, and profound loss. We later became a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, expanding our commitment to women’s physical and mental health by supporting those battling breast cancer and assisting in launching the Gwendolyn Spencer Cancer Foundation.

OUR BEGINNINGS Where It All Began

In our early years, SAGA focused on supporting women and mothers balancing overwhelming life challenges. We assisted families recovering from fires, unexpected hardships, and personal crises—stepping in when support was limited and the need was urgent. These early experiences shaped our values and strengthened our commitment to serving families with compassion and respect.

Sharing on Wheels

Recognizing the growing needs of individuals experiencing homelessness, SAGA launched Sharing on Wheels (SOW)—a mobile outreach initiative designed to bring essential services directly to people rather than waiting for them to seek help. Through SOW, we deliver food, clothing, hygiene supplies, and human connection to underserved and unhoused communities, meeting people where they are with dignity and compassion.

Pursuing Housing stability

In pursuit of innovative solutions, SAGA introduced a Home Sharing Program to connect individuals experiencing housing crises with homeowners seeking supplemental income. While zoning challenges limited the program’s implementation, our efforts reflected a continued dedication to creative, community-based solutions to affordable housing and housing stability.

serving through the pandemic

During the global COVID-19 pandemic, SAGA remained steadfast in service.  We adapted our Sharing on Wheels program in safe Pop-Up stations, ensuring individuals and families continued receiving criitical support amid unprecedented challenges.  Even in uncertainty,, our commitment to community never wavered.

Honoring Legacy: The Jael Brown Foundation stability

Following the loss of one of our original founding members, SAGA established the Jael Brown Foundation to honor her legacy. The foundation provides limited but life-changing financial assistance to families experiencing unimaginable loss—offering stability, restoring faith, and serving as a lifeline during moments of sorrow.

OUR HISTORY, REACH AND IMPACT

SAGA expanded its mission by establishing a chapter in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, allowing us to take our work where the need is greatest. These milestones reflect the dedication, resilience, and compassion of our team and supporters.

BUILT ON PERSEVERANCE

At times, SAGA has been sustained by as few as three determined individuals. Their perseverance laid the foundation for what SAGA is today—an organization rooted in service, compassion, and the belief that meaningful change begins with showing up.

Thousands have received food, clothing, hygiene supplies, and hope through SAGA’s programs. Every act of service affirms our belief that dignity matters and that small acts of kindness can create lasting change. SAGA Empowerment Services exists because when communities come together to serve others, lives are transformed—and hope is restored.
